We’re tired of the same old bars, with the same old people in them.  We’ve seen all the movies playing, and would rather cook in than eat out.  The stores are too full of people for browsing, so the highlight of our weekend was going over to my husband’s best friend’s house to help out.

The friend and his fiancee are expecting twins.  They live in an old house that she inherited from her grandmother about five years ago.  It’s a huge old house, giving them lots of room for their upcoming arrivals.  Unfortunately, the house has never been modernized.

Since they found out they were expecting, they have been working on fixing up the house.  They finally got new, updated appliances last weekend.  A refrigerator, that isn’t round on the top.  A gas range that has four burners, and a washer and dryer, a dryer is something they’ve never owned.

This past Saturday while we were over helping out, my husband and him installed a tankless water heater.  They have never had hot water.  I know they’ve lived there for over five years now, but this is the first time they’ve ever had hot water in the house.  Apparently, growing up, she never had hot water, and neither did her grandparents (whose house it used to be.)

How on earth could anyone live their whole lives without it?  I just can’t imagine it.  I would absolutely die without hot water!  But to her family, it’s normal.

Well, it probably saved them tons on their electric and water bills as showers would be very quick in straight cold water, but I couldn’t do it.  I know she’s happy that she finally has this luxury before her babies come.

Now, a tankless water heater?  How the heck does it work?  I guess this is beyond my understanding, as it takes my water heater at least an hour to get the water to temperature, as we have an electric water heater.  But this tankless one is electric too.

Billy, my husband’s friend, swears that it’s supposed to heat the water instantly, but I just don’t see it happening.  He says it also saves on the electric bill, as it only comes on when you need hot water, instead of always being on as a water heater with a tank would be.

Oh the things they come up with nowadays!
