What are they teaching them?

My Daughter's School Work

My Daughter

Just what are our children learning in school these days?  It’s a question a lot of parents ask themselves often.  Especially when your child bring home a worksheet like this one.

This is the actual paper my daughter brought home from school today.  I agree with her that most of our leaves are brown now, pigs are usually pink, and we usually buy green grapes.  But skunks?  Apparently they can be found at crayola.com?

I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this one, my son got a good chuckle out of it too.

I have to imagine that they were copying the words off of their crayons, as they’re only in kindergarten and can’t read or spell bigger words yet, so she must have read the wrong side of that crayon.  Or maybe there really are skunks found at the crayola website!

Spotlight Fever!

Posted by Leigh on October 18, 2008

little missYesterday was Nursery Rhyme day at my daughter’s kindergarten and she fell in love - with performing! She went as Little Miss Muffet, and got to perform her little skit in front of the whole school.

When she got home yesterday afternoon, she made her cousin, who came home with her, watch her little show about a hundred times. Then when her cousin went home, my son and I got to watch it another hundred times, then we finally asked her to find something else to do. So she did - well, until her father got home.

When did he - Turn into me?

Posted by Leigh on October 9, 2008

Hold on to your Family“Mother’s of teenagers know why animals eat their young.” This is a quote we’ve all seen often enough on funny bumper stickers and t-shirts and the like. It’s always made me laugh, but now that I’ve become the mother of a teenager - I think I might understand it a little better!

So when did my cute, dear little boy - turn into me. I was the teenager with the attitude - the only one who would talk back to my parents and all that, and now that’s my son! I always talk about me turning into my father, but I never realized that my children would turn into me! WAIT! There is more to read… read on »

You’re so Vain

Posted by Leigh on October 1, 2008

Approaching ReflectionYou’re so vain, you probably think this post is about you…

Or at least you would if you were my thirteen year old son! But wait - it is about him, somewhat!

So what is it with teenagers and their obsession with mirrors? Back in the old house, we had a mirrored amoire in the living room, so when ever my son would be out there talking to me, he’d stand and look at himself in the mirror the whole time. Now in the new house, the same amoire sits in the dinning room and we were having the same issue, so we made him switch seats with his sister, so what he’d have his back to the mirrors. It’s not just mirrors either, it can be his reflection in the windows, the car, just about anything! I suppose I can remember being the same way when I was a teen, I guess I occassionally still do, on days when I think I look good! And I know Russ was that way, because he was when I met him, probably one of the biggest attractions too, nothing hotter than a guy with confidence.
